Vigilante’s Weekly Event Schedule

We have surveyed, interviewed and harried our future patrons about the events they want to see at Vigilante, and today we are ecstatic to unveil our recurring weekly events. Below we have outlined our weekly schedule, as well as penned out descriptions of each event.  Forewarning: This is a LONG post.

We plan to run this schedule for the next several months, and then re-evaluate.  We will be gathering feedback at that time, so stay tuned if you have opinions (Editor’s Note: THE INTERNET ALWAYS HAS OPINIONS, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?).

Social Game Sunday

Day:

Sunday

Description:
Tired of your friends? So are we (kidding… sort of)! Leave them at home and make some new ones (or pawn them off on someone else for once). Vigilante provides social games and the opportunity to shuffle around tables: enjoy the company of strangers while you laugh, cringe, and partake in our fantastic menu.

Fireside Hearthstone Gathering

Nights:

Sunday

Description:

Join us every Sunday evening for a fireside gathering to play Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft.  Most weeks will see casual competitions and discussions on decks.  Once a month we will hold a bracketed tournament, with a Mark of the Vigilante up for grabs.

Dungeons and Dragons Night

Night:

Mondays

Description:
Armor up, Ted. The world doesn’t save itself (and you can’t get rich if you just sit in the inn). Vigilante is hosting an ongoing, massive, collaborative Dungeons and Dragons Campaign. We’re building a world. You’re going to fill it with epic.

Join His Majesty’s Adventuring Guild to help bring prosperity to the people (and a swift end to the NPCs who defy you). Your actions impact Vigilante’s game world. Work with other adventuring parties to overcome threats both powerful and sinister. Make friend, allies and rivals as you collectively unravel the mysteries that stand between you and awesomeness.

Note: Dungeons and Dragon’s Night is for members only (aka. Members of the Vigilante Secret Society WHICH DOES NOT EXIST). Your first adventure is on the house. After that we’ll need your support to keep this story alive and kicking ass.

Magic: The Gathering, Friendly Play & Commander

Night:
Mondays

Description:
Tap two beers (preferably not colorless), equip your Swiftfoot Boots, and head on down to Vigilante. Collected Company may no longer be in Standard, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a casual evening with some new (or old) friends.

Magic: The Gathering is the world’s most venerable and beloved collectable card game. With over 10,000 cards, 20 years of history, and the widest played competitive format in the world; we’re excited to bring a relaxed home away from home environment for players to learn and enjoy this incredible game.

For new players: we’ll teach you to play in a group lesson at 7pm. Then we’ll lend you a deck, match you with a new friend, and stick around to answer any questions y’all might have about being a planeswalker.

For Veterans: Bring your trade binder and your favorite decks. Test your skills over a beer and some great conversation. Feel free to play any format you’re digging that night.

For Commander Players: If you’ve got 99 problems (and a legendary creature isn’t one), then bring your Commander deck and prepare to crush your enemies enjoy our full menu and beverage selection while you face off against your fellow Vigilantes. Winners of this friendly competition will earn the respect and admiration of the bartender.

Trivial Matters

Nights:

Tuesdays

Description:
There are over 40 trivia nights each week in Austin, but Vigilante’s is the fairest of them all. We’re not biased, we’ve just looked in a mirror recently. With custom weekly content designed by our own Ace Furman, Vigilante focuses on questions that create discussion, collaboration and participation across your entire team.

Winners of Trivial Matters will not only receive a gift certificate, but a hallowed Mark of the Vigilante. Leave your cell phones at home (or in your meeple drawer), because you’ll need every ounce of focus, camaraderie and wit at your disposal to emerge as the victors.

About Our Host:
Ace Furman is the official trivia host of Vigilante Gaming Bar. Born and raised in South Austin, he recently spent some time in Portland, Oregon, and brought back some of that particular Pacific Northwest brand of weirdness with him. A huge puzzle fan and word fiend, Ace does the New York Times crossword daily, as well as the Ken-Ken and the Jeopardy question of the day. He’s seriously into games, too, and though his favorites are strategy-based classics — think chess, backgammon and a good ol’ deck of playing cards — he also enjoys playing Dominion, Boss Monster and Fluxx.

Ace strives to make his trivia events fun, social and casual events involving friends, conversation and a few beers, and encourages everyone — from self-professed nerds to trivia buffs to average joes — to come out for the fun.

“Trivia should be a low-stress environment to engage in friendly competition,” Ace says. “[It’s] obviously challenging your knowledge, your creativity and your skills of deduction, but also, trivia becomes really fun when a question requires the cooperation of every member on a team. Bouncing ideas off of one another to come up with a good answer is a game in itself.”

Magic: The Gathering, Eternal & Draft

Night:
Wednesday

Description:
Trigger warning: you should make us your priority on Wednesdays. We’ve got the food, drinks, and prizes so feel free to add yourself to the stack. (We’re not sure if MtG puns will give us loyalty counters, but at the rate we’re proliferating this tide feels inexorable).

Vigilante is proud to host both an Eternal and Draft night every Wednesday. Because we aren’t a game store, we can’t offer sanctioned competitions, but we’re happy to offer you a killer food and beverage deal instead. Competitions are ages 21+ only. Prizes will include gift certificates, the hallowed Mark of the Vigilante, with some additional prize support we’re still discussing with vendors.

Magic: The Gathering is the world’s most venerable and beloved collectable card game. With over 10,000 cards, 20 years of history, and the widest played competitive format in the world; we’re excited to bring a relaxed home away from home environment for players to learn and enjoy this incredible game.
